Between 1912 and 1968, Marcel Duchamp has written over fifteen hundred letters, postcards and telegrams to relatives, friends and professional acquaintances. Francis M. Naumann and Hector Obalk selected 285 of the artist's most significant letters to 48 correspondents. These documents are an essential resource for anyone trying to understand the personality of one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century through his works and activities : readymades, the Large Glass, optical machines, chess, books and boxes, surrealist exhibitions, etc. The letters are reproduced in their entirety, retaining in typesetting as much as possible of the appearance and sensitivity of the original documents. They are transcribed in the language in which they were written - English or French (with English translation by Jill Taylor) - and chronological and biographical data are provided to clarify information that is not otherwise apparent from the context. Throughout this selection, the reader will appreciate the subtle variations of tone and style in Duchamp's correspondence with Louise and Walter Arensberg, Constantin Brancusi, André Breton, Yvonne Chastel, Jean Crotti, Jacques Doucet, Katherine S. Dreier, Suzanne Duchamp, Richard Hamilton, Robert Lebel, Pierre de Massot, Man Ray, Henry McBride, Walter Pach, Francis Picabia, John Quinn, Henri-Pierre Roché, Alfred Stieglitz, Jean Suquet, the Stettheimer sisters, Tristan Tzara, Jacques Villon, Beatrice Wood and others.

Some Aesthetic Decisions is an exhibition featuring works by artists that explore issues of beauty, value, and judgment. One hundred years ago, Dada artist Marcel Duchamp forever changed the nature of art by anonymously submitting Fountain in 1917, a porcelain urinal signed 'R. Mutt'as an artwork to the exhibition of the Society of Independent Artists in New York. The show organizers' rejection of Fountain ignited a controversy that persists today about the definition of art and who gets to pass judgment. The NSU Art Museum in Fort Lauderdale, Florida marks this centenary by organizing 'Some Aesthetic Decisions', a show of artworks by Cory Arcangel, John Baldessari, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Sophie Calle, Duchamp, Judy Fiskin, Claire Fontaine, Mike Kelley, Jeff Koons, Joseph Kosuth, Jorge Pardo, Andy Warhol, and others.
